On the occasion of Comunidad’s 30th anniversary we asked our alumni to write about Leon Felipe and their experience with Montessori.  Here are fragments of what some of them had to say:

Poza

"If I owe anything to Leon Felipe is that it made me sensitive to the suffering of others

I owe it my ability to seek solutions to personal and professional problems, and to never having to say "I can’t" when faced with a challenging situation.   I also owe Leon Felipe my organizational skills and my discipline to set up goals just as we used to set them as children when doing our weekly plans" "

My name is Valeria Garza Teran, B.S. in communications.  I am a Montessori Child class of 91 and I’m deeply proud of it.

"What is Leon Felipe? The answer is simple.  It is:
Harmony for those looking for peace
Wisdom for those thirsty for knowledge
Understanding for those needing to be heard
Unity for those discovering friendship
Respect for those who understand the responsibility of a guide
Freedom to be heard and to listen
Yet above all, Comunidad is, as the word indicates, and for one who understands the meaning of Montessori, peace. Thank you Geor for 30 years of this word"
Alessandro Lucini. Class of  97.

Also from Alessandro:  "To me Leon Felipe was and still is a second home, and through the 10 years since I graduated this idea has only grown in me.   I am currently living in Milan, Italy, and when I visit Mexico there are three places that always go to: My home, the restaurant "Tacos al pastor Los Latosos", and Leon Felipe.  Visiting Islas Revillagigedo 4 is always a pleasure, and even when it has physically changed a lot since I was a student, it still has that ambiance, that feeling upon entering that one is at peace, relaxed, at home"

The memories and the life lessons I learnt throughout the ten years that I studied at Leon Felipe are endless and immeasurable.  At Leon Felipe, I was treated as an individual in a community where the relationships between my peers were just as close and personal as the ones with my teachers. In this atmosphere, my self-confidence grew and public speaking came naturally.  I gained the ability to set and then pursue my goals; I developed a sense of responsibility for my actions and awareness of the consequences of these.  I learnt how to make choices in a world of possibilities and I discovered the magical moment when you are able to physically represent and understand an otherwise completely abstract concept.  But most importantly, I was encouraged to pursue a subject for the simple pleasure of learning.
